We want to bring out the best in each other. We do this by ensuring your child is happy, safe, healthy, takes part in the life of the school, works hard, and respects other people. Pupils are instilled with a spirit of tolerance, mutual understanding and an awareness other’s needs. Bullying is not tolerated.
Throughout the school the principles of good behaviour are stressed by the Headmaster and reinforced by every member of staff. All pupils are expected to act with thought and consideration, and a good standard of manners and personal appearance is encouraged as a reflection of pride in oneself and respect for other people.
Class teachers are the front-line pastoral carers and meet pupils on a daily basis, taking registration and resolving any immediate problems for the children. Buddies are appointed to help new pupils settle in and Year 6 prefects support the staff by helping to supervise lunch sittings and lining up at the end of break time.
The Mall Code is displayed in every Year 4 – 6 classroom. It also forms the focus of several assemblies in the autumn term and highlights how pupils from The Mall are expected to conduct themselves. From Reception to Year 3, we use The Mall Promise. Class teachers discuss expectations with the children.
Pupils are encouraged to voice their concerns and express their views. The Pupil Council gives children an opportunity to discuss what really matters to them, like lunch menus or playground equipment.
Every term, pupils in Years 2 – 6 complete a wellbeing survey to gauge how they are developing resilience, independence and self-esteem. These results are also used for assembly topics or PSHE lessons.
The Department of Education issues statutory guidance on a school’s duties to safeguard and promote children’s welfare. As well as adhering to the guidance, we have strict protocols around recruitment and new staff training, with dedicated Safeguarding staff.
