Years 4 and 5 both visited the Roald Dahl Museum last week and had a brilliant day discovering how he found his ideas for creating characters from real life.

The children explored the galleries, dressed up for inspiration and made their own characters in the interactive Story Centre. In the galleries they also learned about his biographical writing techniques and discovered a collection of his drafts and notebooks.

Children at The Mall spend a lot of time reading, both during and outside of school. They have access to a wide range of books in our library and have developed a great passion for reading. This trip emphasised our pupils’ love for reading and it was a great opportunity for them to learn new ways of creating their own original characters.

The children unlocked their imagination during the trip and continue to have a positive attitude to reading and writing, which they showcase in their English lessons.
