Boys at The Mall School in Twickenham are celebrating this week as one of the winners of a national competition to promote the Anti-Bullying Alliance’s anti-bullying week.
Schools were asked to support the campaign by wearing odd socks to school and then challenged to promote their efforts imaginatively across social media, including twitter, for the chance to win a visit from CBeebies presenter Andy Day and his band, Andy and the Odd Socks.
Boys from Reception to Year 8 took part, as did many members of staff. They thought of fun ways to photograph their odd socks, including dressing the school mascots in odd socks and posing on the playground equipment. Year 2 even went as far as to dance along to Andy and the Odd Socks’ song “Choose Respect” in the school’s theatre. Throughout the day, photos and videos were posted on the school’s twitter feed to help highlight issues around bullying.
Headmaster, David Price, said: “We are delighted that the boys’ efforts on Odd Socks Day have been recognised and we are looking forward to welcoming Andy and the Odd Socks to The Mall very soon. As a school we take the boys’ personal development, happiness and wellbeing very seriously with time devoted to bullying and other key issues in PSHE lessons and through regular surveys and talks in assemblies. This is the second year we have supported the Anti-Bullying Alliance’s national week of campaigning and it has certainly helped reinforce the key messages of kindness and respect amongst the boys here.”
